Hi, the icing will taste like whatever flavor you use. If you purchase icing already made it will not dry out because it has so much preservatives and stuff in it. If you make icing from scratch and do not want it to dry too fast then put a damp cloth over the top of the bowl, and your frosting will remain moist in the bowl.

in a store or make your own- it may dry. i use butter, from a cow, and powdered sugar. (margarine is only if you have cholesterol!) oil, butter, won’t dry out. i have no set recipe and usually eat it all in a day or less. i mash butter and powdered sugar into a stiff paste. add chopped nuts or coconut. i use cocoa or coffee for flavoring. vanilla, too. SOMEtimes i add a drop or two of water, you can use milk, tho’ i never tried. a stick of butter and half a pound of sugar should do a cake, or a dozen or more cupcakes. a tablespoon per cupcake is likely what i would do, but i usually ice only one or two as i eat them. unless you need a “theme” color, i would not advocate use of food colors. sure they are fda approved, but i don’t trust “ingredients”.
